A little note from Corrine

Hello everyone!!! It’s Monday night and I think I’M ALL SET TO GO!!! I can’t believe it really, it’s been such a long time coming. All week I’ve felt so overwhelmed, thinking I have so much to do before I go, and that there was no possible way I’d get it all done. Alas, now all I have to do is wait, and second guess everything I’ve packed, inevitably repacking it several times. I think I’ll finally feel relaxed when I walk onto the plane. In the sensible words of my father and travel partner “whatever you forget you can just buy it there. They have stores in Africa too you know”… He is very wise.
I do have a few concerns. One being that I have the WORST passport picture ever. I don’t know how it happened (considering I process passports for my job) but it’s horrible. Combine that with my weight loss and I’m unrecognizable. I don’t think they’ll let me back into the country. I’ll try to post a picture of it so you can all vote on my chances, and it will make you all feel good about yourselves. I challenge anyone to show me a worse passport picture! =)
My other concern is that I really want to make sure I appreciate this wonderful opportunity I’ve been given. I really can’t believe I get to go to an International Convention. I want to really soak it all in and grow from what I experience. I’ve been told that it really is a life changing experience and it will be more amazing than I can even imagine. I know it will be. One way I’ve been preparing myself is I’ve been reading different experiences from our brothers and sisters in South Africa. I am truly moved by what I’ve read. The 2007 yearbook has a whole section on South Africa. Read it if you have the chance. After reading what our brothers have gone thru I am honored to attend an assembly with them.
I have only one thing that is making me feel a bit of sadness on this trip. It’s that you all can’t come with us. I’m not used to attending conventions or meetings without you! Because of that please do me a favor- check the blog, be a follower and leave us some comments. The only thing that can make this experience better is if we can share it with you! I truly mean that.
Two weeks seems like such a long time, but I know it will fly by. Thank you all for your excitement and encouragement for us. Talking to all of you gets me so excited for what’s to come. I’ll miss you!!!
Welcome to our journey!!!!!

  1. Question: Are those both of your suitcases or is one Katie's? If only one is yours thats pretty small for 2 weeks! Also, you should have seen my passport picture before I got married, I looked like a mean albino russian.

  2. Hi guys, Alissa said that you invited me to follow your blog. I appreciate it. It's the only excitement I have...following these blogs. :)

This is actually my 4th attempt to post a comment. I am having trouble with getting a follower picture up also. I'm so bad at this. It doesn't stop me though!

I just wanted to wish you a safe and uneventful flight and a wonderful trip! My sister and family are going over also but they don't have a cool blog. :)

    Have fun!
p.s. Corrine, your passport photo expression is very cute. :)

  3. One bag is Katie's, the other is mine! She's worried she doesn't have enough stuff- her bag is bursting at the seems! I didn't want to be that sister- you know the one with the biggest bag- we'll see how it goes!

  4. My passport picture is infinitely worse than yours - I somehow looked like a terrorist. I'd show you but it was taken two years ago, and therefore may still cause accidents ;)

Hopefully you can find internet access often enough to update regularly, but really you should concentrate on the experience as your main priority.

    Have a safe trip, ladies!

  5. Yay I figured out how to 'follow' the blog! :P
    Boy I'm a technoligical wizz.
Anyway, the picture isn't THAT bad Corrine, it could have been worse...you could have been sneezing or something. xD

((And if you're wondering, my picture is Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn from Star Wars. I'm such a nerd. xD))

  7. Hey!
I'm so sad I missed the passport pict! Bring it back! It's all the talk of the town. :) If it makes you feel better, when I went to sign my passport, someone told me to be careful and not mess up... so for whatever reason I signed my name in cursive and I threw a g into my first name and I forgot the a in my last name. It's pretty botched up. Alas, can I please see the pict? ;)

  8. Hey it's Mom!
I just checked your flight progress online and it said you're over Botswana, and should be landing in a little over an hour.
It's 12:58 here, and it should be 8:47 AM (there) when you land in Johannesburg.
What a long flight, you must be tired.
Love yah (yes both of you), Mom
